HTA Student and Parent Handbook
2009 - 2010 School Year
Welcome
E komo mai (Welcome) to Hawaii Technology Academy
We hope this will be a great year of learning for your child at HTA. This handbook is designed to help your family begin and continue your relationship with the Hawaii Technology Academy. Members of the HTA faculty, administration and your Local School Board have developed this handbook with input from students and their families. Its purpose is to clarify expectations and to be a resource guide for the education journey your family is embarking on with HTA! Please feel free to submit feedback to your HTA Local School Board (HTA-LSB) via email at HTALSB@hawaiitechacademy.org
Hawaii Technology Academy is a Hawaii public charter school and was chartered on April 17, 2008 by the Charter School Review Panel. Our school is a public charter school that is funded by state and federal tax dollars and governed by your HTA Local School Board pursuant to Hawaii charter school law and applicable federal laws.
Our program involves student learning taking place in a multitude of environments, so it is important to familiarize your family with these environments in order to fully participate and help your child succeed in the educational program HTA offers. Our blended model of instruction will include face-to-face instruction at our Learning Center as well as online lessons. Students will be provided a comprehensive Hawaii standards-based curriculum using state-of-the-art online and hands-on instructional materials to provide a customized public school education. Our Hawaii-licensed teachers and administrators will instruct the students and promote an active school community both online and at the Learning Center.
Our students and teachers will work together remotely, via online classroom instruction, email and phone as well as at the Learning Center. One of the challenges of working together remotely is trust and clear communication. Trust comes from the sharing of critical information, good and regular communications, the setting of clear expectations, and then living up to our mutual commitments. We know this as our kuleana (responsibility) in Hawaii. This handbook has been compiled in the spirit of that first step toward building new relationships, a community of trust and a clear understanding of our kuleana within our HTA ohana.
Our school office is located at our Oahu Learning Center and the majority of our administrative team works from this location. Please don’t hesitate to contact our office with questions. We welcome the opportunity to partner with you and your family in this educational endeavor. Again welcome to the HTA Ohana! Let’s make this year an incredible learning adventure for our all our keiki!
Mahalo nui loa,
HTA Teachers, Staff and your Local School Board
