We believe that a collaborative relationship between you and your assigned Hawaii Technology Academy Teacher is at the heart of a positive learning environment. Each of our teachers is provided with a laptop computer, a full set of the K12® Curriculum materials and professional development on the subjects of technology and the K12® Curriculum. Your teacher is a wealth of knowledge and thus should be your first point of contact for all questions that are academic or technical in nature.
- Maintain regular office hours
- Help you use the Online School
- Loan you the necessary K12® curriculum materials if yours are missing or delayed
- Help you to coach using the K12® Curriculum
- Conduct regular conference calls with you to discuss your child’s academic progress
- Conduct regular face-to-face meetings with you and your child
- Collect and review work samples and provide constructive feedback on a regular basis
- Respond within 48 hours to all emails and telephone calls
- Provide at least 24 hours notice if a conference must be canceled or rescheduled
- Inform you of school updates/information from HTA
- Host one school outing a month
- Administer state standardized tests
- Provide encouragement and support in all areas of student learning and achievement
- Meet students in Elluminate for individual or small group instruction
- Administer various academic assessments as part of the ongoing evaluation of progress and mastery.
- Model specific practices that will support instruction
- Provide interventions, recommendations, and customized support for students who may be struggling.
Support Staff
Hawaii Technology Academy is proud to offer many different levels of support and support staff to fit your child’s academic needs. In addition to your HTA Teacher, you will have access to subject area specialists who offer office hours and Elluminate sessions, and who can help customized your child’s educational experience at HTA.
High School Counselor
Our guidance counselors are here to help our students with questions and make sure that our student’s are successful. If you have questions regarding student’s classes or schedule, or graduation requirements our counselor’s is here to support your child.
The most important job of the counselor is to make sure our students are enrolled in the right classes and will be graduating in a timely manner.
Academic Advisor Specific Functions
- Coordinate yearly course selections, course changes, and long term 4 year selection plan
- Review and maintain all records, report cards, progress reports and test scores
- Monitor student's progress throughout the four years
- Communicate with teachers, parents and students regarding academic status
- Conduct post-high school planning
- Write college recommendations
- Distribute scholarship information
- Make financial aid material available and guide parents and students through the process
- Provide registration information regarding PSAT, SAT and Advanced Placement testing
- Attend administrative and departmental meetings
- Coordinate teacher/parent conferences when requested
- Provide orientation for students new to the high school before the beginning of the school year and as they enroll
- Provide NCAA Clearinghouse information
